Who are we? The Toronto Signals Band, since 1926, is a unique organization. We perform for audiences throughout Canada and the United States, in events such as parades, concerts, tattoos and drum corp shows.
Although we are associated with the 709 Communications Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve, we are not part of the military; however, we perform as their Duty Band on a volunteer basis.
Since the Corps inception, we have won more than 400 awards and have truly been acclaimed ‘Canada’s Marching Ambassadors’.
In 1999, the Band welcomed women to join the ranks. Today, they make up 20 percent of the membership and have been a great asset to keeping the Signals’ history and traditions alive. Over the years, many bonds and friendships have been established with those who have come to know the ‘Sigs’ and will continue in the future.
Where do we meet? The Band has a regular practice, once a week on Monday evenings, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Fort York Armoury, 660 Fleet Street West, Toronto in Room 301 (second floor).
Fort York Armoury is located on Fleet Street, just east of the C.N.E. Free parking is available.
The Band’s Mess is open before and after practice for socializing.
How old must I be to join the Toronto Signals Band? Anyone may join the Band, preferably over the age of 19. Younger members over the age of 16 are invited as long as they join with a parent or guardian.
What are the requirements for membership? Experience is an asset, but not required. We are willing to teach inexperienced players.
Does it cost anything? There are no registration or annual fees to be a Member of the Toronto Signals Band. Uniforms and instruments are provided on a loan basis. Appearance fees provide funds for most travel, uniform upkeep, instrument purchases and repairs. From time to time, minimal contributions are necessary if the members decide to perform at a special event.
Why should I join the Toronto Signals Band? It’s great fun. You will meet new people, visit new places, learn new things and gain new knowledge. We provide the training, you provide the desire.
Interested? Come visit us any Monday evening at Fort York Armoury or contact us for more information.
We look forward to meeting you.
