Our Website offers an excellent opportunity to communicate stories, thoughts and ideas to present and past members, so, “Let’s talk”.

We can present articles that recall our history and describe the many characters, faces and events since our beginning in 1926.  We have a proud history and each year we strive to be better than the year before. The faces change from time to time, the music and presentation can change, and even some of the instruments can be altered and improved.
It is, as you know, called progress.

What is PROGRESS?

Webster’s says it is to develop to a higher, better or more advanced stage, and that’s good.
We must in doing this, however, maintain our traditions, and never forget that we grew out of the military. Our dress, style and step, and every part of our being must reflect that military legacy. We are what we are because of it.

The following words perhaps require our attention and some of our time to think about and reflect upon:

LEGACY:  Something received from the past or a predecessor.

TRADITION:  The handing down of information, beliefs and customs by word of mouth or by example from one generation to another.

HERITAGE:  Something transmitted by or acquired from a predecessor.

These thoughts are offered at this time because there is a tendency to forget or overlook our military background.  There are Members that have been around for many years.

They are reminded of our military heritage because of the Church, C.O.’s and Warriors Day parades. Newer members and recruits are welcome to our fold and many are very talented musicians, however, they generally are not familiar with our military history and therefore lack the knowledge of why we demand a certain degree of discipline.
This brings us to another definition:

DISCIPLINE:  Rules or system of rules governing conduct or activity.

In our case, the above would also include dress and appearance.  We must set the example, tell the story and encourage others to respect the past and preserve the heritage we are honoured and expected to maintain.  We are the Regimental Band of the 709 Communications Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve.

While our connection is on a voluntary basis, we must when on parade or in uniform look, act and reflect proper military bearing.

BEARING:  The manner in which one bears or comports oneself.
